Planet Namek

From Free net encyclopedia

Planet Namek is a planet in the fictional manga and anime series Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, and home to the sentinent snail-like race of nameks. The planet is fairly similar to Earth, with comperable gravity and atmosphere, though the sky is green and due to its three suns there is no night.

Many centuries before the start of the Dragon Ball series- a show which is the highest grossing anime series of all time, a great cataclysm hit the world, wiping out almost all the nameks inhabiting it. Only Saichourou and one other namek (the original namek Demon King Piccolo and Kami used to be) are known to have survived. Prior to the cataclysm, the world was covered with a plant called Ajissas.

Over time, Saichourou gradually repopulated the world but the world was again threatened during the Freeza Saga when most of the nameks were killed by Freeza, Zarbon and Dodoria. Frieza, in his battle with Goku, destroyed the planet itself. Fortunately, by that time the inhabitants of Namek had been wished to Earth.

The Namek's stayed on Earth until they were able to use their Dragon Balls to find a new home that was almost the exact same as their old one; they named their new planet New Namek.

New Namek is visited twice in the remainder of the series. The first time is when Goku goes to enlist Dende as the new Kami of Earth and the second is when Dende, accompanied by Kibitoshin, goes there to use the planets Dragon Balls to restore the Earth and its populace.

In the Dragon Ball movie Return of Cooler, New Namek is attacked by Meta-Cooler's forces who attempt to capture all the nameks but are defeated by the Z Fighters.ja:ナメック星
