Raghead
From Free net encyclopedia
Raghead is an ethnic slur generally denigrating a male who wears a type of clothing on the head, usually Arab, Pashtun, Middle Eastern or South Asian descent.
Following from the September 11, 2001 attacks where Osama bin Laden was identified as the Al Qaeda leader behind the plot, this slur has increasingly meant Arabs and Muslims in general.
Occasionally the term can be manipulated to provide variance, such as "Ragger" or "Ragi Omah" an Asian news presenter for the BBC.
Sikhs have previously been referred to as "towelheads" in a teasingly affectionate manner by John Belushi's Second City comedy troupe in the early seventies and elsewhere.
Another ethnic slur by which designates a Muslim is a "ragtop"
Women, Muslim or otherwise, are not generally included in the designation.
