  • The common meaning of being small in length or height or time.
    • A person who is abnormally short is said to have dwarfism.
  • In electrical engineering and electronics, it is an abbreviation for short circuit.
  • In finance, the holder of a short position in a security, such as a stock, owes the security, whereas the holder of a short position in a futures contract has the obligation to sell the underlying at a forward date.
  • Short films are referred to commonly as "shorts".
  • The Short Brothers were British aviation pioneers.
  • Walter C. Short was the US Army General in command at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked in 1941
  • In computer science, short integer is a common datatype.
  • To have a short time remaining in some period of service, e.g. to have a short period of time left in military service before being honorably discharged ("I'm out in three days - I'm so short I can get hurt falling off a dime!")
