Ska-Core
From Free net encyclopedia
Ska-Core is a blend of 1970s 2 tone ska with 1980s punk, although some bands within the genre, for instance, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, play a cross between ska and metal music.
Ska-Core was originally performed and popularized by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Operation Ivy and The Suicide Machines.
It is basically ska-influenced punk, whereas ska punk or punk ska is punk-influenced ska. Ska-core is less widely known than ska punk, but they share a lot of the same influences and formulas. Other bands of this genre include Blue Meanies, The Spitvalves, Cryptorchid Chipmunk, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, Link 80, The Dingees and Mustard Plug.
Many ska fans dislike the term "core," as it is becoming increasingly trendy to slap on the word "core" to create a new genre.
