Sogndal is a municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.

Sogn og Fjordane university college is located in Sogndal.
The local football team, Sogndal IL, plays in the Adecco-League (2005), the second tier of Norwegian football.
In 1917, a Sogndal farmer ploughed up the Eggjum stone, a gravestone with runic inscriptions important for the history of the Norse language.
Famous people from Sogndal include footballer Eirik Bakke.
Sogndal has its own ancient dialect of Norwegian called Sognamål.
History
Kaupanger stave church (built 1190) is located in the small township Kaupanger.
