Star Trek: Bridge Commander is a tactical simulation/flight sim computer game, published by Activision, based in the Star Trek universe. Generally, this game was well received by the reviewers of various gaming magazines, scoring higher than 80% in most cases.

The plot revolves around a newly promoted captain who is assigned to investigate an explosion of a star in the Maelstrom. Throughout the mystery, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander Data occasionally assist in the investigation. It appears that a rogue Cardassian is responsible and is using a new weapon from an unknown race to threaten Alpha Quadrant races. The captain and his crew take command of the USS Sovereign to combat this new threat to the Federation.

The game allows two different flavours of gameplay: history mode and simulation mode. Simulation mode allows customizing missions for neverending playing -- from Starfleet defensive tactics, to piloting a shuttle craft in a cooperative assault, to a Cardassian outpost.

Storyline

The game begins with a standard mission, the starship, USS Dauntless, is in orbit of a planet near the Maelstrom system. Captain Wright is onboard a shuttle when suddenly the Vesuvi star suddenly explodes. The shockwave is devastating, destroying the planet's orbital stations and obliterating the Captain's shuttlecraft. The USS Dauntless exits the system suffering damage to her warp engines. The ship is able to safely return to a Federation drydock facility where it undergoes repair and refit and her Executive Officer (You the player) is promoted to Captain. Soon the player, is joined by Starfleet's Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The ship departs the drydocks for Starbase 12, the operation command center for the Maelstrom region.

The vessel will eventually become a key factor in solving the mystery in the Maelstrom and reveal a Cardassian plan for an invasion of the Federation.

The game has been heavily expanded upon by the gamers of Star Trek Bridge Commander, Mods such as Galaxy Class with Saucer Seperation and the Prometheus, as well as the more advanced mods like NanoFX really do add the bang to the game.

Star Trek Bridge Commander is NOT available to buy anymore as the game developers, Activision and Totally Games have discontinued it.

Coming Soon: Immersion Framework - The Ability to walk around and interact with the Vessel inside, a lot similar to Elite Force 2 Kobayashi Maru 1.0 - New Armada 2 style gametypes
