Being stoned means to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance, such as cannabis.

Etymology
The word may be related to the Biblical capital punishment of stoning, in the sense of one's being knocked out or unconscious.
Before cannabis's effects came to dominate the use of the word, it was commonly taken to mean "extremely drunk." It is commonly used to describe the mindstate of a person who is using cannabis.
It might also refer to the state of a person who used cannabis a short while ago. In this case stoned is the phase after high, which refers to the feeling of being airborne.

Computer virus
Stoned is also the name of a computer virus that was very common and widespread in the early nineties. [1] Booting one's computer, the screen would declare:
Your computer is now stoned.
