Using this page

Copyright Warning

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding Template:Tl to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding 'Template:Tl to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list. Note that there are separate areas below for photographs and graphics/diagrams. Please copy your request in the edit summary so that recent requests can easily be seen on the page history.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add the image request template, Template:Tl to the article's talk page, which would then list the article in Category:Wikipedia requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Wikipedia requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image. If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the {{Reqimage}} tag from the article.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

Agriculture

Fruits

  • Pictures that relate to the mango that perhaps involves maps that show where they are grown.
  • Photographs of the flowers and the tree of the durian, and its less common species like Durio dulcis (red durian) and Durio graveolens (red-fleshed durian). --BorgQueen 22:30, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Art

  • (Think this goes here), the cenotaph for the New London School explosion. 68.39.174.238 22:54, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Art by Damien Hirst, preferably free. Already searched Flickr, but nothing useful comes up. Image:Huskyeye.jpg Husky (talk page) 16:00, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Emeryville Mudflat art: Need pictures of the Emeryville Mudflat art (no longer existent). These will be old - 1960, 70, 80, early 90's. (This request is intentionally duplicated below in Place in North America.)
  • Origami tech tree - from the article, "This page needs LOTS of pictures, and maybe some animations.". —Josh Lee 02:16, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
  • Self-parody In my opinion, an artist's parody of his or her own work would be better than a self-portrait in caricature style. JerryFriedman 21:49, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
    • I couldn't really find a good example of an artist parodying their own work exactly, so instead I added an image of Duchamp's Fountain, a parody by an artist of art itself. I hope it's found appropriate.--Pharos 01:34, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
      • [Fountain] was never meant to be a parody or art (read the wikipedia page on it). This does not meet the definition of parody, much less self-parody.
        • I enjoyed seeing the picture there, but maybe it's time for something that's more exactly relevant. —JerryFriedman 18:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Howard Finster We must have some Wikipedian who's been to Paradise Gardens and has some cool-looking photos, right? Philthecow 03:48, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Irony has a bit of a problem. It's had a couple of different images, none of them satisfactory, and the one we seem to be stuck with now is a propaganda photo of Hitler with a little girl, which some people find "ironic". There's a fairly general agreement on the talk page that we'd like to have a depiction of classical irony, but nobody seems to have one available. We would love to see a picture of Socrates talking to Meno, or to whomever, or a picture of Marc Antony giving the "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" speech, for example. Any scene involving classical irony would be great. Thank you. -GTBacchus(talk) 20:30, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Stuart Davis (painter). I have not been able to find a picture of the artist himself and would really like to see him. Katemckenna 06:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Madonna of the PinksHAM Image:Icons-flag-wales.png 13:00, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

I would like to get something like Image:Vulvabigopen2(english).jpg. Other versions of this image have been already deleted due to copyright violation, it's just a question of time, when this one also disappears. The picture was used on many wikis and there is no equivalent image we could use right now. It should depict: clitoral hood, glans clitoris, labia majora, labia minora, opening of the urethra, opening of vagina and remaining hymen. Thank you very much. I understand how difficult it will be to get it. Miraceti 15:14, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Comic books

  • Eternals - Needs a group shot of the Eternals main characters (Sersi, Makkari, Ikaris and Thena) and of the Uni-Mind.
  • Fighting American - Preferably a picture of the original 1950s Kirby version, but any modern version (DC Comics or Awesome Ent.) could be used as well.
  • Nomad (comics) - Preferably a picture of his original uniform, or one of the character0s main series.
  • Shade (comics) - Needs two pictures, one of his classic Golden Age look, and another one from the last Starman series.
  • Shade, the Changing Man - A picture by Steve Ditko and a modern one from the Vertigo series.
  • Starman (comics) - Could use some small pictures (headshots may be okay in a few cases) of some of the people to use the name, notably Ted Knight, Mikaal Tomas, Gavyn, Will Payton and Jack Knight.
  • Squadron Supreme - Needs an image, preferably the Alex Ross cover for the graphic novel that reprinted the mini-series.
    • All of the aboev are going to be copyrighted. You might as well just take something off of the internet, it will all be the same (poor) copyright status. --Fastfission 18:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
  • The flags (Properly tagged and sourced this time) for Syldavia, San Theodoros and Borduria, and maybe the seal/CoA of Syldavia also. 68.39.174.238 07:10, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Computers

  • A screenshot of the Wikipedia front page on a NeXT computer running WorldWideWeb
  • Can we have a screenshot for Windows CE 3.0, showing the front screen when the WinCE 3.0 device starts up? - Ta bu shi da yu 02:41, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
  • On the Anisotropic filtering page, it would really help to have examples - i.e. with AF and without, in the vein of the antialiasing page.
  • Current Apple hardware: mostly filled now, at present only a closed MacBook Pro and its MagSafe power adaptor are still fair use.
We won't get our hands on PD images for the Intel stuff until Febuary. I still think it's better to use the official most up-to-date Apple ones, but our current more free alternative actually isn't that bad. I'd like it on, though.--HereToHelp (talk) 19:45, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Updated the original request above, though I'm still looking for a few particular older models: Beige Power Macintosh G3 AIO, Power Mac G4 Graphite (the image we have is only a mock-up) and a Performa/LC of the 5x0 series would pretty much complete the collection. -- grm_wnr Esc 15:41, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Cosmetics

Culture

  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Gurn. —Josh Lee 03:13, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
  • Sicilian School - Need a picture of Frederic II (Holy Roman Emperor) that portrays him with his magna curia, his court. The members of the school were Frederick's notaries. Thanks. --Wikipedius 11:06, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
  • Teddy Boy (youth culture) - there is one picture on the page but maybe one or two more would be helpful.
  • Lomilomi massage needs image of techniques. --Viriditas 04:01, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
  • 50-miler award needs a photo of people in the Boy Scouts of America hiking or canoeing. Must be from BSA because it is a BSA award. I've offered a bounty[2] if an acceptable free image is added in time to make the Main Page under "Did You Know". Johntex\talk 21:34, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

  • rayon Some super-close-up photos or maybe even diagrams showing the weave and texture would be great.
I added a picture of a woman with a rayon scarf, not a lot of close-up pictures do a good job of showing the texture. This has the light shining through it and shows rayon's gossamer quality.Magmagirl 20:54, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Currently the only image is a chemical structure. -SCEhardT 05:03, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Stapler This page could use a shot of a saddle stapler (maybe shots of both manual and electric versions). Saddle staplers are used for stapling brochures, putting the staple in the center of a piece of paper. A long-reach stapler would also be nice.
    • I can probably get a saddle stapler within a week, if I remember. --The Human Spellchecker 07:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Note: I got permission from the guys at www.vgmuseum.com to use their game pics a while ago, and started doing some of the systems listed here. However, laziness and ADD caused me to never finish. If anyone wants to go ahead and do the rest, be my guest. Lockeownzj00 05:12, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC) If anyone has a good picture of the Stone Tower from Majora's Mask, please put it on said article. Preferably two, one of the exterior and one of the interior.

Geology

  • There are many mineral pages that would benefit from a picture of the mineral

  • Argyle diamond mine could really use a photo of a pink diamond (come on, I know you all have a few sitting around waiting to be photographed :) ). A pic of a "champagne"- or "cognac"-colored diamond would also be nice. These pics could be reused at Diamond (a featured article) and elsewhere. Thanks! - Bantman 17:39, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
    • I added a picture of pink diamonds from the GIA website. My company owns plenty of pink diamonds but I don't think I'm allowed to release photographs of them! They are really beautiful. Same with cognac and champagne diamonds. Pictures don't truly do them justice.--Magmagirl 21:31, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
      • I don't know about you releasing photos from your own company, but you're definitely not allowed to use GIA website photos without permission (notice the copyright info at the bottom of the page you used). I left a note at your user page too; I'm afraid the picture needs to be deleted. - Bantman 21:55, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
        • Sorry about that! I will check with my company about whether or not we can contribute a picture of one of our pink diamonds.--Magmagirl 22:22, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

For what article??--Zxcvbnm 13:16, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
Fire Marshal, ofcourse ;D. Seriously though, those things account for probably 98% of the exposure the office gets to the public, and is likely the best possible pic we could get for that article (Except maybe for a badge of office). Thanx 69.142.2.68 18:01, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
I don't know, the occupancy limit signs in theaters make up a significant fraction of that exposure too. Sparr 22:01, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
