Wikipedia is a multilingual project; as such, we may have articles on one subject available in many languages. The various languages each appear in semi-separate wikis, linked by interlanguage links.

Articles on the same subject in separate languages are independently editable and edited; they are not required to be translations of one another or to strictly maintain a correspondence in form, style, content, or attitude (so long as they all accord with the NPOV policy), though it is hoped that polyglots who work in multiple languages will help spread new information around between the articles in different languages. This page exists in support of that work.

Translating entire articles into another language can be helpful when getting started, but there are some caveats:

  • Translation is hard. Amateur translators tend to produce prose that is unnatural, and perhaps incorrect when it comes to specialized terminology.
  • Machine translation is much much worse. Never use machine translation to create an article! (This doesn't mean you can't use machine translation as a tool, but it does mean that machine-translated material dumped into the English-language Wikipedia is worse than nothing.)

This page exists as a place to request and to coordinate translations of articles from foreign-language Wikipedias into English. Creation of a similar page in any foreign-language Wikipedia is encouraged, but this page is not intended as a place to request translations in the opposite direction (i.e. from English to another language). That would belong on a meta-page of the appropriate Wikipedia.

Please note that for copyright reasons, this page is not for requesting translation of sources external to any Wikipedia. The exception to this is if you can also show that the license conditions of the source page would permit its redistribution under the GFDL, e.g. if the page is public domain or itself GFDL-ed, or if permission has been obtained from the author. In that case you should state the copying terms clearly with your request, including if relevant a link to a "terms and conditions" page of the source website.

To request an article please add a level-3 heading and indicate:

Note that something like this (without that last sentence) would be in order even if the German-language article did not cite any references of its own.

Notability on an international scale may indeed be discussable, but can't be measured by occurence in the Latvian wikipedia, as that is, unfortunately, in a lot of its parts a pretty dead affair. Rainis being their most important writer (and deservedly noted in English, Russian and German Wikipedia) had no article in the Latvian until February 10th this year and still has none, for the new one is a copyvio. I believe the official name of the church is Santi Cosma e Damiano, not sure what the best English article title would be. Some nice GFDL pictures there too that should probably be uploaded to commons if someone descide to translate the article. Only use the images used in the Wikipedia article though, one of the linked sites is obviously the source of the images and contain many more, however that site is lisensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 wich is incompatable with the Wikipedia. I have translated a good portion of the article but my Spanish is poor, and not nearly good enough for specialized knowledge translation. The structure is far along: I have imported all the images and references, formatted the article similar to the original, and have polished with multiple piped links and research. All that is needed is for untranslated paragraphs to be completed. Such untranslated paragraphs appear in the article in their proper places, and are surrounded by tags making them easy to locate and translate without searching for where they should appear.
