This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with Template:Tl. Template:Translation department If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation into English.

If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.

When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.

Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD A8 can be speedily deleted with Template:Tl, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.

Boilerplate text

For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):

1. Use the notice Template:Tl and click on [Show] to reveal customized boilerplate text. The template will show up as:

2. Add a mention on this page, using:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~
3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with Template:Tl, the "use English" warning.

If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:

1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''
3. Add a mention on this page.

If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:

1. Use the notice Template:Tl, which will show up as:

Template:Cleanup-translation

2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.

User box

You can add this user box template to your userpage: Template:Tl. This will unfold to Template:User wikipedia/Pages needing translation into English

Jewelry (group)

胸いっぱいのこの愛を 誰より君に
This is apparantly the CD single Delight Sweet Light by Jewelry, a Kpop/Jpop band, a translation of the tracklisting can be found here (except track 3) at some place selling it. The group has released 3 albums in Korea, and I think only 3 singles in Japan, not sure if that makes them notable, note the band doesn't seem to have an article in the english wikipedia yet, so would imagine that would be more meaningful to add if people think it's encyclopaedic material rather than the contents of one of their CDs. If someone wants to add such an article I found a biography/minor history. Sfnhltb 01:22, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
note merged and redirected all CD articles to band's main article --Kunzite 01:11, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

See Jewelry (group) for the main article on this k/j-pop group. According to the Asian-Pop wiki theppn:GIZA studio, their label, is a label that licens mainly independant groups. I'm not familiar enough with the music group notability standards to guess on this topic, though. --Kunzite
Did some editing.. it needs a bit of Korean transliteration / translation now. :) I added a bit of Hangul, but I'm not proficient in translating or transliterating it. Added minor biography. Still not sure if they're notable or not. --Kunzite 01:11, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

سلام

Arabic, I presume. — sjorford (talk) 14:53, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

The title is certainly Arabic: it says 'salaam'. Seems unlikely to be a genuine article. ColinFine 23:39, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Salam :) It's written in Urdu (Urdu uses Arabic script), and the sentence says, "Salam derives from the Arabic word Salm, which means to bless.". The person who wrote the article was probably a newbie just "trying to contribute", it could be listed as an entry in the Wiktionary, but just one line certainly doesn't justify an article. A disambiguation page on Salam and a full article on Assalamu alaikum already exist, so this article should be deleted.
I'm new to this translation thing, and I came specifically for the purpose to help with Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi etc. What's the standard procedure now? Should I add the above explanation to the article page? Or add some tag for deletion straightaway? Waqas.usman 04:21, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Ideally, you do both, so the deleting admin knows what to do. Kusma (討論) 03:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

It could be worth translating. I couldn't find any copyvios (but I didn't look too hard). As a deceased person, he may be notable enough. — TheKMantalk 07:14, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
OK. The article three parts: "LIFE OF AUGUSTE TOUBEAU", "BURIAL OF AUGUSTE TOUBEAU" and "PRESS REVIEW". The "PRESS REVIEW" is a direct copy from a 1912 primary source. (But maybe that's not a copyvio because of the age...) The other two sections borrow hevily from this "PRESS REVIEW". I could translate the first two sections, and delete the "PRESS REVIEW" section... but it's a long article so it will be a fair bit of work. Do we think this is worth it? Or should we transwiki to French Wikipedia? (How is that done? I have no experience in transwiki...) Jamie 06:02, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

User:Diderot translated this article into a stub a while ago but original anonymous author re-submitted the content in German. I moved the German text out of the article to its talk page, but thought I'd re-list the article here, in case anyone is interested to take a look and perhaps, translate. - Introvert ~? 03:15, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Actually the full text has now been translated. Kusma (討論) 23:01, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

After a week, no body's touched the article I submitted into the Bosanski wiki. Well, at least it hasn't been deleted... but I've still not been able to verify the information. Should we even keep it? Any ideas much appreciated... - Introvert ~? 07:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Les Zapartistes

An article in French from CAT:PNT - just tagged, but submitted back in December. Appears the comic Quebec activist group Manifesto. - Introvert ~? 08:25, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Copyvio from here. I put a prod tag on it because I don't think the current article merits translation even if the copyright problem can be cleared up. Kusma (討論) 14:03, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
  • The source site states GPL license. Should we give this article a better chance, perhaps? It doesn't seem a total waste to me :) even if it must go to AfD, maybe someone would care to translate even then. I'd remove Template:Tl... What would you say? - Introvert ~? 22:58, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
    • I can't tell whether there should be an article about this group, but I don't think translating this manifesto is going to produce one. I certainly won't stop anybody writing an article about this group. Kusma (討論) 23:16, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
I agree with you that if it were just the manifesto translation, it won't make it an article. But I am concerned that under Template:Tl, a sizable chunk of french text as it is, it has next to zero chance of being re-worked. That's why I thought that perhaps removing it from proposed deletions and just letting it sit here for another 10 days, and then pulling it through AfD -- maybe it will give it a better chance of being picked up. I can't insist because I for sure am not capable of taking this thing on my lap, that I know... so am leaving it to your discretion :) - Introvert ~? 07:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
I believe that deleting this and then listing fr:Les Zapartistes at Wikipedia:Translation_into_English/French will be better than working from the current thing. (Actually, I am not sure whether the GPL license is for the site's design or for its contents). Kusma (討論) 03:04, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh that's what we should be doing! agreed entirely. A great solution, especially taken the comment right below. Too bad it didn't occur to me to check out the French wiki for this one! next time, must remember... - Introvert ~? 06:17, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
I find myself with a little time on my hands - I'll translate it over the next half-hour or so. --Diderot 12:25, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Done. It's a little haphazard though. I don't get a lot of Canadian humour programming on Belgian TV, so somebody who's actually seen them - or at least has some contact with the Quebec humour scene - might want to take a gander. --Diderot 12:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
  • I just took a look at this article, and I honestly don't think it's worth translating. I don't think it's notable, and it's definitely got a certain point of view. BrianGCrawfordMA 03:38, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
