There is a phrase take the mickey as well as take the mick

Current revision

Mick or "Mic" is a short form of the popular forename Michael and is used extensively throughout Ireland. Some also claim that it comes from the popular Irish surname "Mc-," as in McDowell, or McShane.

It is also sometimes used, usually with a lower-case "m", as an offensive slang term in British English and American English for an Irish person or a Roman Catholic.

It is also used as slang in the phrase take the mickey or take the mick meaning to tease.

Many Irish surnames begin with "Mc" or "Mick." Irish are also named after the famed Michael Collins, making Michael (Mick) a very common name. Mick, Mc, or Mic refers to as mainly as "son of". For instance the surname MacDonnell literally means son of Donnell.
