Stavropol Krai (Template:Lang-ru) is a federal subject of Russia (a krai). Its administrative center is the city of Stavropol. According to the 2002 census, its population is 2,735,139 and the area is 66,500 km², giving it a population density of 41.1/km².

As of February 2004 its governor is Alexander Chernogorov.

Geography

Stavropol Krai encompasses the central part of the Forecaucasus and most of the Northern slopes of Caucasus Major. It borders with Rostov Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, Kalmykia, Dagestan, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia. It belongs to the North Caucasus Economic Region of the Southern Federal District of Russia.
