Cambridge University Students' Union
From Free net encyclopedia
Template:Infobox Students Union Cambridge University Students' Union (CUSU) is the university-wide representative body for students at the University of Cambridge, England.
Established in 1971 as the new Cambridge Students' Union (CSU), it was eventually recognised by the university authorities on May 25th, 1984 and renamed, following a student referendum in March 1985, to Cambridge University Students Union. Its second president was Charles Clarke, later a Labour MP, Secretary of State for Education and Home Secretary.
The Cambridge University Students' Union is often confused with the Cambridge Union Society, the student debating society founded in 1815.
Although graduate students at Cambridge University are members of CUSU, there is also a separate students' union for graduate student affairs, the Cambridge University Graduate Union, known as the Graduate Union.

Controversy
In 2006, the largest Cambridge college students' union, Trinity College Students' Union disaffiliated from CUSU. Several other colleges were reported to be also considering the option[1]. There has been controversy over the level of engagement CUSU has with the student population.
