Nick Kent (born December 24 1951) is a British rock critic and punk musician.

Along with such luminaries as Paul Morley, Charles Shaar Murray and Danny Baker, he was seen as one of the most important and influential music journalists of his time. He wrote for British music publication New Musical Express in the 1970s and 1980s and is the author of "The Dark Stuff". although becoming a heroin addict as the magazine became more and more successful, he left to rehabilitate himself, and return to NME magazine.

Kent´s best work tries to explain from a cynical point of view the lifes of rock and roll musicians that risked their sanity and personal health in order to make their art. His style vibrates with images of self destruction and ultimate compassion that trascend the “rock criticism” tag, exploring the tragedy of being a true artist in the late twentieth century.

In 1974, Kent was also for a time guitarist for punk band the Sex Pistols. After leaving the band, according to the novel Only Anarchists Are Pretty, he was attacked by the man who would later become a bassist for the Pistols, the infamous Sid Vicious.Template:UK-writer-stub
