Wikipedia:WikiProject Telescopes
From Free net encyclopedia
This is the Wikiproject template for telescopes, space telescopes, astronomical observatories, and astronomical surveys.
A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about telescopes, etc. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!

Scope
This WikiProject aims primarily to document telescopes (both ground-based and space observatories), astronomical observatories, and astronomical surveys. The subjects of these articles may be described as all being forms of data gathering for astronomical research.

History
On 16 February 2004 zandperl proposed on the Astronomy talk page to have a uniform structure for pages on telescopes. As there were no objections, this WikiProject was born. Other contributors to the pages and format you see here include Gentgeen and Maio--feel free to add or subtract your name as you wish.
Structure
Units should be minimally SI, US units can be included as well. Observatories will link to individual telescope pages, as will surveys. Different infobox templates exist for the different types of data sources; choose the one most appropriate for the page. The infobox should have the name of the telescope/observatory/etc., a picture of the telescope (with no additional caption), and the body of the article should include at most two images taken with the telescope. An example image is included below.
Infobox
When putting these into a page, the table declaration line should read:
- <table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" style="margin-left:3em; margin-bottom: 2em; font-size: small" width="243" align="right">
The "align" has been removed here for displaying purposes. It also looks best if it's placed a few lines into the first paragraph.
