Maple Grove is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 50,365.

Growth

Over the last 10 years Maple Grove has grown into one of the most populous cities in the state of Minnesota. As of 2000 it was the second fastest growing city in the state behind Lakeville, Minnesota. Recently a huge expansion has gone on in Maple Grove called the Arbor Lakes Project. This has added many new businesses especially in the new inside-out mall.

Miscellaneous

Maple Grove's most famous former resident is the former Governor of Minnesota and pro wrestler Jesse Ventura. Ventura lived in Maple Grove for many years. These many years included a period in which he served as mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, a period as a talk show host for KFAN-AM, and his campaign and term as governor.

Maple Grove is also the home of Boston Scientific.

Geography

Image:MNMap-doton-Maple Grove.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 90.5 km² (35.0 mi²). 85.1 km² (32.9 mi²) of it is land and 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.95% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 50,365 people, 17,532 households, and 13,955 families residing in the city. The population density was 591.6/km² (1,532.3/mi²). There were 17,745 housing units at an average density of 208.4/km² (539.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was the whitest of the Northwest suburbs of Minneapolis 94.74% White, 1.05% African American, 0.24% Native American, 2.52% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 17,532 households out of which 46.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% were non-families. 15.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.24.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $76,111, and the median income for a family was $81,873. Males had a median income of $52,187 versus $37,021 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,544. 1.4% of the population and 0.8% of families were below the poverty line. 1.7% of those under the age of 18 and 2.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
