Mound is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Zip code: 55364. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,435.

Image:MNMap-doton-Mound.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.7 km² (4.9 mi²). 7.6 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 40.04% water. Lakes in Mound include: Black Lake, Cooks Bay, Dutch Lake, Langdon Lake, Saunders Lake, Seton Lake, and Lake Minnetonka.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 9,435 people, 3,982 households, and 2,560 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,239.1/km² (3,203.8/mi²). There were 4,118 housing units at an average density of 540.8/km² (1,398.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.24% White, 0.64% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.30% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.45% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 0.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,982 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 35.6% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 108.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $60,671, and the median income for a family was $68,396. Males had a median income of $44,437 versus $34,125 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,309. 2.7% of the population and 0.9% of families were below the poverty line. 1.7% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
